With the right care, however, you can extend its service life considerably.<\/p><ul><li><strong>Calibration:<\/strong> This is the most important step for an accurate measurement. Always calibrate the probe according to the manual of your measuring device. Use our pH buffer solutions for this, preferably first <a href=\"\/en-mt\/buffer-solutions\/ph-buffer-solution\/ph-7\/\">pH 7<\/a> and then <a href=\"\/en-mt\/buffer-solutions\/ph-buffer-solution\/ph-4\/\">pH 4<\/a> or <a href=\"\/en-mt\/buffer-solutions\/ph-buffer-solution\/ph-10\/\">pH 10<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Cleaning:<\/strong> A dirty probe is the most common cause of inaccurate measurements. Carefully remove deposits with a special <a href=\"\/en-mt\/buffer-solutions\/cleaning-solution\/\">cleaning solution<\/a> (max. 15 minutes). Always rinse the probe after cleaning and recalibrate it. Preferably use demineralised water for rinsing.<\/li><li><strong>Storage:<\/strong> Always store the pH probe in the <a href=\"\/en-mt\/probe-protective-cap.html\">protective cap<\/a> with <a href=\"\/en-mt\/buffer-solutions\/kcl-storage-solution\/\">KCl storage solution 3 mol\/l<\/a>. This keeps the sensitive glass hydrated, which is essential for a fast and accurate response. Never use demineralised water for storage; this can damage the probe beyond repair.<\/li><\/ul><h2>Do I also need an ORP probe?<\/h2><p>For good chlorine control, you need an ORP probe as well as a pH probe.
