Buffer solution pH 9 (pH 9.00 at 25 °C) is often used as the third calibration point, instead of pH 10.01 or pH 9.18, when calibrating your pH probe or pH meter. NIST traceable, certificate of analysis per lot and SDS available. Available in 250 ml, 60 ml and 20 ml. This buffer solution is also called pH buffer.
How to calibrate with pH 9
- First rinse the pH probe with clean water.
- If it is dirty or contaminated, first clean it with cleaning solution for probes.
- Most calibrations start at pH 7.
- Always check the manual of your measuring system for a correct calibration of your pH probe or pH meter.

Store the buffer solution in its original, tightly closed packaging, cool and dry at 15–25 °C, protected from frost and direct sunlight, and away from strong acids or oxidising agents.

Do I always have to calibrate pH 7 first?
Usually yes, that depends on your manual. First the neutral point. pH 9 is often used as the third calibration point instead of pH 10.01 or pH 9.18. Whether you calibrate at 1, 2 or 3 points is stated in the manual of your pH meter or measuring instrument.
Can I pour used pH 9 back into the bottle?
No, you may not. Pour a fresh dose into a clean beaker or glass, carry out the calibration and discard the remaining solution.
Do I store the pH probe in pH 9?
No, always store a pH probe in KCl storage solution 3 mol/l for probes. Demineralised water may only be used for rinsing, never for storage.
