Applications of the ORP probe

Our NXG-ORP probe is designed for versatile use and is compatible with a wide range of systems.

  • Swimming pools: ORP is the practical method for electronically monitoring the effectiveness of disinfectants such as chlorine. A correct ORP value goes with water that is free of pathogens.
  • Chlorine control (salt electrolysis): For good and safe chlorine control, measuring the redox potential is essential. The ORP value reflects the oxidising effect of the chlorine in the water.
  • Water treatment: In industrial water treatment and waste water treatment, ORP is a critical parameter for monitoring oxidation and reduction processes.
  • Aquariums: For a stable living environment for fish, besides pH the ORP value is also an indicator of water quality.

Is this ORP probe compatible with my controller?

One of the biggest advantages of our ORP probe is its universal compatibility. Thanks to the standard BNC connector, Ø12 mm and 3 metre cable, the probe is suitable for most common controllers and measuring devices on the market.

The probe is compatible with brands such as: Sugar Valley, Hayward, Zodiac, AstralPool, Bayrol, Hanna, Milwaukee, Seko, Mettler, WTW and Bluelab, among others. How do I maintain and calibrate my ORP probe?

An ORP probe is a consumable. With the right care, however, you can extend its service life considerably.

  • Calibration: Calibrate every new ORP probe when you first use it, then as often as the manual of your controller requires. Most swimming pool controllers ask for 475 mV. ORP calibration solution is corrosive: no longer in the solution than necessary, then rinse.
  • Cleaning: A dirty probe is the most common cause of inaccurate measurements. The gold measuring point must stay clean and free of deposits. Remove deposits with a special cleaning solution (max. 15 minutes). Then rinse with demineralised water and recalibrate.
  • Storage: Always store the ORP probe in the protective cap with KCl storage solution 3 mol/l. This keeps the reference hydrated. Never use demineralised water for storage; this can damage the probe beyond repair.

Do I also need a pH probe?

For automatic pH control alongside chlorine control, you need a separate pH probe. pH and ORP are not interchangeable.
