Store your pH and ORP probe correctly

The glass sensor of your pH probe or the gold sensor of your ORP probe is very delicate and can be damaged quickly. The protective cap plays a double role in protecting your pH and ORP probe. It ensures that your electrode stays moist and it forms a physical barrier that protects the probe.

Fill the protective cap with KCl storage solution 3 mol/l. It is the same kind of salt solution as the reference electrolyte in the electrode itself. As a result, the ion balance stays stable and no KCl is drawn out of the electrode.

Never store your electrode in demineralised water or any other liquid.

Practical

1. Rinse the electrode briefly with clean water after measuring.
2. Fill the protective cap with storage solution until the glass bulb and the junction are submerged.
3. Close it tightly and store the electrode upright.
4. Check from time to time whether the solution is still clear; replace it if it becomes cloudy.

White salt crystals around the protective cap are normal. That is KCl crystallising out. Simply rinse with tap water.
