Buffer solution pH 4 for calibrating pH probe and pH meter
Buffer solution pH 4 (pH 4.01 at 25 °C) is the acid point for calibrating your pH probe or pH meter. NIST traceable, certificate of analysis per lot and SDS available. Available in 250 ml, 60 ml and 20 ml. This buffer solution is also called pH buffer.

How to calibrate with pH 4
- First rinse the pH probe with clean water.
- If it is dirty or contaminated, first clean it with cleaning solution for probes.
- Most calibrations start at pH 7.
- Always check the manual of your measuring system for a correct calibration of your pH probe or pH meter.
Packs:
- pH 4 buffer solution 250 ml
- Buffer solution pH 4 60 ml (sold per set of 5×60 ml)
- Buffer solution pH 4 20 ml (sold per box of 25×20 ml)
- Calibration sets pH and ORP
Storing buffer solution pH 4
Store the buffer solution in its original, tightly closed packaging, cool and dry at 15–25 °C, protected from frost and direct sunlight, and away from strong bases or oxidising agents.
Frequently asked questions about buffer solution pH 4
Is pH 4.01 the same as pH 4?
Yes, it is the same buffer solution. The exact pH value of the pH calibration solution is pH 4.01 at 25 °C.
Do I always have to calibrate pH 7 first?
Not always. You use pH 4.01 both for calibration at 4.01, 7.00 and 10.01 and for calibration at 4.01, 6.86 and 9.18. If you calibrate at 4.01, 7.00 and 10.01, first calibrate the neutral point pH 7.00 and then pH 4. If your device requires calibration at 4.01, 6.86 and 9.18, then pH 6.86 is the neutral point, and not pH 7, unless the manual specifies otherwise. Whether you calibrate at 1, 2 or 3 points is stated in the manual of your pH meter or measuring instrument.
Can I pour used pH 4 back into the bottle?
No, you may not. Pour a fresh dose into a clean beaker or glass, carry out the calibration and discard the remaining solution.
Do I store the pH probe in pH 4?
No, always store a pH probe in KCl storage solution 3 mol/l for probes. Demineralised water may only be used for rinsing, never for storage.
Is Meytec pH 4 NIST traceable?
Yes. Every lot has a CoA. SDS and CoAs can be found under Downloads.
Is this buffer solution suitable for all pH probes and pH meters?
Yes, this is a standard buffer solution that you can use for all kinds of applications and with all brands of pH probes and pH meters. Such as Sugar Valley, Hayward, Zodiac, AstralPool, Bayrol, Hanna, Milwaukee, Seko, Kripsol…
