EC probe
A reliable measurement of nutrient concentration or salt content starts with a good EC probe. Our EC probes, such as the NXG-EC with BNC connection and 3 metre cable, provide an accurate and stable measurement of electrical conductivity. Whether you are checking hydroponics, swimming pool water or process water: calibrate regularly and maintain the probe for a long service life.
Applications of the EC probe
Our EC probe is designed for versatile use and is compatible with a wide range of systems.
- Hydroponics: EC is the measure of the total amount of dissolved nutrient salts. An accurate EC measurement is essential for optimal plant growth.
- Swimming pools: The EC value gives insight into the salt content. That is needed for salt electrolysis to work. For a quick check of 0–10 g/l there is also the pool salt tester.
- Aquariums: For freshwater and saltwater aquariums, a stable EC value is an indicator of water quality.
- Water treatment: In industrial processes and waste water treatment, EC monitors the total concentration of dissolved substances.
Is this EC probe compatible with my controller?
Thanks to the standard BNC connector, Ø12 mm and 3 metre cable, the probe fits most common EC controllers and meters. Check that your device has a BNC input and accepts a 12 mm probe.
The probe is compatible with brands such as: Hanna, Milwaukee, Bluelab, Apera, Sugar Valley, Hayward, Zodiac, AstralPool, Bayrol, Seko, Mettler and WTW, among others. If in doubt: send us the connector type or the system.
How do I calibrate and maintain my EC probe?
An EC probe is a consumable. With the right care it lasts longer.
- Calibration: Always follow the manual of your meter or controller. Use 1413 µS/cm for hydroponics and the low range, or 12880 µS/cm for the high range. Those are two different bottles. The manual decides.
- Cleaning: Salts, algae and biofilm settle on the cells. Clean with a special cleaning solution (max. 15 minutes). Then rinse with demineralised water and recalibrate.
- Storage: EC probes are usually stored dry, in the protective cap. First rinse with demineralised water to prevent salt deposits. Do not store in KCl. Do not store in demineralised water. Never in tap water.
Calibrating the EC probe: sachet, small bottle or bottle
You place the EC probe NXG-EC directly into the 20 ml sachet or the 60 ml bottle of conductivity standard. From the 250 ml bottle, you pour a fresh dose into a clean beaker each time.
