Cleaning solution for maintenance of pH probe and ORP probe

Cleaning solution for cleaning your pH probe or ORP probe. This solution is specially made to remove contamination from your probe.

  • Clean before you calibrate, never after.
  • Maximum 15 minutes in the solution. Repeat if necessary.
  • After using the cleaning solution, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Only then calibrate with the correct calibration solution.

Swimming pool

In the swimming pool, a film remains on your pH and ORP probe due to algae growth, dirt and skin oils. You do not always see that film, but it makes the pH probe and ORP probe measure more slowly. Clean first, then calibrate with pH 7 and pH 4 or pH 10. And the ORP probe with 475 mV or the value required by your dosing system.

Hydroponics

Nutrients and algae leave deposits on the pH probe. As a result, the pH probe responds more slowly and less accurately. A short soak in cleaning solution keeps the probe in optimal condition.

Laboratory

After a measurement in protein, solvents or a contaminating substance, the junction can become blocked or the probe can become contaminated. Clean the pH probe or ORP probe before you calibrate again.

Food and drink

Milk, wine, beer, juices and sauces deposit protein and sugar on the junction and pH probe. Without cleaning, the pH measurement becomes slow and unreliable. Soak briefly in the cleaning solution, rinse, then calibrate.

Aquarium

In the aquarium, there is often an invisible film on the pH probe or ORP probe due to algae growth. That is why it is very important to clean the probe regularly for a correct calibration and measurement.

Storing cleaning solution

Store the solution in its original, tightly closed packaging, cool and dry at 15–25 °C, protected from frost and direct sunlight, and away from strong bases or oxidising agents.

Frequently asked questions about cleaning solution

Is this the same as buffer solution or KCl storage solution?

No. Cleaner cleans the pH or ORP probe again by removing the deposits from the junction and the probe itself. Buffer solution adjusts the pH meter or ORP meter. KCl storage solution is for longer storage or rehydration of the probe.

Can I clean with vinegar or demineralised water?

No. Demineralised water rinses, but it does not dissolve protein and oil. Vinegar can damage the junction. Only use specific cleaning solution for probes.

How often should I clean?

Before every calibration if you see deposits, or after use with greasy substances, food, drinks… Clean your pH and ORP probe regularly for a faster and more stable measurement.

Can the probe stay in the cleaner overnight?

No. Maximum 15 minutes at a time. Soaking longer does not help. Always rinse thoroughly afterwards.

Do I calibrate before or after cleaning?

After cleaning. Never before.

Can I use the cleaning solution for all pH probes and ORP probes?

Yes. This cleaning solution is suitable for all types and brands of pH probes and ORP probes. Also suitable for your pH meters and ORP meters, of course. So you can use this cleaning solution on all your favourite systems from Sugar Valley, Hayward, Zodiac, AstralPool, Bayrol, Hanna, Milwaukee, Mettler, WTW or Bluelab. For a special ISFET, check the manual.
